A little over a week since their epic semis encounter in the PVL Reinforced Conference, Cignal challenges Creamline once again in another crucial match, this time in the Invitational Conference. The Cignal-Creamline showdown in the semifinals of the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference proved to be a key turning point in conference.
While the Cool Smashers won that game in five, and eventually took the title at the expense of the Akari Chargers, there’s a sense of “what if” especially on the side of the HD Spikers.
Not only did Cignal took a 2-0 lead in that match, the HD Spikers had multiple match points in the fourth set, only to still come up short in the end.
But only a little over a week since, Cignal gets another crack at Creamline, with both teams matching up in the 2024 Invitational Conference.
It’s another mega showdown, as the result of the match would more than likely determine a finalist in the season-ending tournament. The HD Spikers are ready, now more than ever.
Cignal HD faced a surprisingly tough challenge from Thailand’s EST Cola but eventually prevailed, 25-23, 27-25, 25-12, securing a provisional share of the lead in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational 2024 on Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena. Coming off an easy win over Farm Fresh, Cignal had to dig deep in the first two sets against a determined EST Cola side. The HD Spikers scrambled late in both frames, especially in the second, where they had to overcome a set point and survive a tight exchange to seal the win.
The one-hour, 22-minute victory marked Cignal’s second straight triumph following its straight-set sweep of Farm Fresh last Friday. With momentum on their side, the HD Spikers are now primed for a crucial match against the Creamline Cool Smashers at 6 tonight (Monday), also at the Pasay venue. At press time, Creamline (1-0) and defending champions Kurashiki Ablaze (2-0) were vying for the solo lead. Cignal squandered a commanding 2-0 set lead and ultimately fell to Creamline in a thrilling semifinal battle during the recent import-laced tournament organized by Sports Vision.
