The Creamline Cool Smashers delivered a commanding performance against the Capital1 Solar Spikers in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference, securing a straight-sets victory with scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-15.
This match was particularly significant for Creamline, as they were coming off their first loss in months—a straight-sets defeat to Chery Tiggo. Determined to rebound, the Cool Smashers showcased their depth and dominance on the court. Tots Carlos led the offensive charge with 14 points, including 12 attacks. Bernadeth Pons contributed seven points, while team captain Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, and Michele Gumabao each added five points.
The first two sets saw Creamline establishing control early, capitalizing on their experience and cohesive play. In the third set, they surged to an 8-0 lead and extended it to 20-4, effectively sealing the match. Despite a late 9-2 run by Capital1, the Cool Smashers maintained their composure, with Pons delivering the final blow to conclude the game in just over an hour and 18 minutes.
Head coach Sherwin Meneses expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement:
"Syempre, yung win ngayon kahit papaano naka-recover kami sa last loss namin pero ang importante naman eh makapaglaro kami ng maayos tsaka ma-improve every game para pagdating sa dulo ng mga games maganda yung ilaro namin. Thankful kami nanalo kami ngayon."
For the Solar Spikers, Jorelle Singh was the standout performer, tallying 14 points. However, the team struggled to find a rhythm against the formidable defense and versatile offense of Creamline, resulting in their fifth loss of the conference.
This victory propelled the Cool Smashers to a league-best 5-1 win-loss record, momentarily placing them at the top of the standings. The match not only highlighted Creamline's resilience but also underscored their status as strong contenders in the PVL All-Filipino Conference.
