The Indonesian U-17 national team is set to kick off its campaign in the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup. The squad, led by Nova Arianto, will face a debutant team from Africa, Zambia, in Group H at Field 7, Aspire Zone, Doha, Qatar, on late Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 10:45 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
In another match in Group H, Brazil, a team that has clinched the title four times in 19 appearances in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, will play against Honduras at Field 3, Aspire Zone. This match is scheduled to take place earlier at 07:30 p.m. WIB.
Meanwhile, six other matches from Groups E, F, and G will also play their first-round matches on Tuesday. These include the England versus Venezuela, Germany versus Colombia, and Mexico, facing South Korea.
This season will be Indonesia's second appearance in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, after the squad's debut two years ago as host. With Bima Sakti at the helm, the Young Garuda was stopped at the group stage, but the players are deemed more well-prepared this year under coach Nova Arianto.
The preparations for the World Cup have been planned since Nova's squad secured a spot after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFC U-17 Championship in April. The coach has designed a more organized program over the past few months.
A total of nine friendly matches were played, with three of them taking place two weeks before the games in Qatar, against Paraguay, Ivory Coast, and Panama. The results saw them lose once to Paraguay 1-2, while the other two ended in draws, 0-0 and 1-1.
These three friendly matches took place during their final training camp in Dubai, before heading to Qatar on Saturday, November 1.
Nova stated that his team is ready to compete. He hopes the Young Garuda squad will perform at their best and achieve a positive result in the first match. However, he emphasizes to his players to play without pressure.
According to Nova, the results are not the ultimate measure, but rather part of the learning process. "I ask the players to continue to enjoy and savor the game," said Nova, as quoted from Skor.id. He also stressed the importance of public support without excessive pressure. "Do not set excessive expectations. Regardless of the outcome, continue to support the Indonesia U-17 national team."
